NBN Co has appointed Service Stream to run a community information hotline service.
Service Stream, which also runs call centres for the Australian Communications and Media Authority and the Federal Department of Broadband (DBCDE), said it had beaten seven other firms to the deal.
It would initially employ about 12 people but ramp up with the NBN rollout.
Staff would take inbound queries from end customers, although NBN Co as a wholesale-only company would not service them directly.
"The call centre will help address the community's information needs," NBN Co's general manager of external affairs Trent Williams said in a statement.
The phone number is 1800 881 816.
