Queensland Coalition slammed for unfinished website

Opposition policy pages under construction.

Queensland Opposition leader John-Paul Langbroek was criticised in state parliament yesterday for a website that had been under construction for months.

Ministers Desley Boyle, Karen Struthers and Andrew Fraser highlighted various policy pages that had yet to be built. On one such page was written: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur ..."

The unfinished webpages were taken offline yesterday afternoon. A spokesman for Langbroek had no estimate of when the site would be completed.

Struthers, the Queensland Minister for Women, said she visited the site before it was taken down because she was "interested in what it has to say" about women in construction and housing.

"But if you click on 'women', they are under construction! Women are under construction!" she said during parliamentary question time.

Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development Andrew Fraser tabled a bundle of extracts from Langbroek's website, noting that pages were being taken offline.

Several other Queensland ministers published media statements following the sitting, including ICT Minister Robert Schwarten, who noted that ICT had not been listed as a policy area on the site.

"What sort of alternative government does not even mention ICT, with massive developments such as the National Broadband Network (NBN) about to change the face of Queensland?" he said.

An Opposition spokesman labelled the coordinated attack as "another diversion" from issues like a failed payroll system implementation at Queensland Health.

"It's one of those sites that's been under construction," he said, explaining that the web project had been underway for "some months".

"It's ironic that the Government is attacking us on a private website," he said. "It hasn't cost the taxpayers any money."
