In a response to the explosion of mobile-phone content, the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) has announced the creation of a new regulatory group.

The AIMIA Mobile Content Industry Development Group was developed in conjunction with internet and direct marketing groups to address regulatory and marketing issues such as SMS, ring tones and other mobile content.

"AIMIA has noted genuine growth in the mobile content sector, and the creation of this new group was a no-brainer", said Sandra Davey, president at AIMIA. "We are proud to have been able to respond to our constituents in such a timely manner."

The group will include representation from companies such as Disney, ABC, ninemsn, BigPond, MIG, Fairfax Digital and Spin New Media.

"The sorts of issues and opportunities that the group will cover include, but are not limited to, general industry development opportunities, standards and metrics," said Davey.

Davey added that DRM issues, regulatory issues, liaison with mobile groups overseas and consumer education issues would also be discussed.
