Former People Telecom chief John Stanton has joined the Communications Alliance as its new CEO.
Stanton replaced Anne Hurley who has led the industry body since its inception. In August 2009, Hurley announced that she would resign to pursue other leadership opportunities.
Stanton was the CEO of People Telecom until it was sold to M2 Telecommunications in 2009. Previously, he also held leadership positions at OTC, Telstra, and fixed satellite service provider Intelsat.
Communications Alliance chairman Michael Lee said Stanton would bring "a strong awareness of the issues facing telcos and their customers in this highly competitive industry."
Stanton was expected to commence with Communications Alliance in late April 2010.
The organisation has been working with NBNCo to establish the National Broadband Network since August.
