Microsoft details Windows Phone 7 features

No multi-tasking or cut and paste.

Microsoft has been giving more details of its forthcoming Phone 7 mobile operating system at the Mix10 developer conference.

At the conference the software giant said that the new operating system will not, as expected, handle full multi-tasking for non-Microsoft applications, since third party applications were sandboxed.

The operating system will also not have the ability to cut and paste. Apple users were displeased over the lack of a cut and paste function for the first iPhone but Microsoft reportedly said that most Office users do not need to use the function, despite it being a feature of its mobile operating system for more than eight years.

Phones using the operating system will be out by the end of the year, according to Microsoft.

It is unlikely that some phones running Windows currently will be able to upgrade.

Office users don't need clipboard??? what tha?? More like, if you are in the office and not using the phone at all, then you obviously don't need the cut and paste...
just plain disappointing both in terms of feature missing as well as press release 'covering' it.

No copy/paste?!? The ONLY thing I like about WM6.5 is that it is full multi-tasking and can copy/paste!

At least it makes the choice between Android/WM7 easier.

I think M$ has obviously started hiring Apple employees to design their mobile OS. If they mess up WinMobile 7 enough, people will buy an iPhone. Why do these people not listen to users?

It is sheer arrogance on behalf of Microsoft to tell its customers what they will and won't need. Why should a Desktop PC be treated any differently to a mobile OS in terms of its features, people still want copy and paste and so called 'third party applications' should be allowed to fully multitask. Perhaps windows phones will need to be 'jailbraked' to access the features.
