Apple tablet confirmed running iPhone OS

Text book publisher confirms deal over tablet.

Comments by McGraw Hill's chief executive have confirmed that the new Apple tablet to be announced tomorrow will be running the iPhone operating system rather than a version of OSX.

In an interview with CNBC Terry McGraw confirmed that his company, which is one of the leading textbook providers in the US, had been working closely with Apple on the new tablet and let slip details about the appliance.

“We have worked with Apple for quite a while and the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable,” he said.

“So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95 per cent of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you're going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific. "

While Apple is refusing even to confirm that a tablet will be launched tomorrow McGraw was quite clear that it would be, and on the applications it will be running.

The use of the iPhone operating system is also interesting, as it suggests that the device will be sold with a mobile network contract, which would help discount the expect high price of the device.
