Telstra CEO David Thodey and Queensland Premier Anna Bligh officially opened Telstra's new multi-million dollar Queensland headquarters yesterday.

The building consolodates eight existing Queensland offices into one and is located at 275 George street in Brisbane.

"Telstra has a significant presence in Queensland and is one of the largest corporate tenants in Brisbane," Telstra CEO David Thodey said at the opening.

"This new building demonstrates our commitment to our people and to Queensland and is part of an investment worth about $400 million over 10 years."

The project required engagement with "a number" of local businesses including architects, audio-visual consultants, landscape designers and stair manufacturers, Thodey said. It had created 2,000 construction jobs, he claimed.

Among the features of the building were open plan seating and a shared breakout area on level four which included outdoor dining areas and a deck, BBQ and kitchen facilities, landscaping and a lounge area for employees.

The building is subject to a 45,000 square metre, ten-year lease agreement with property developer Charter Hall.

Vacating its eight existing premises in Queensland was expected to create ongoing lease savings of $11.5 million from 2009, Thodey said.

Nothing wrong with that, they clearly need the money to pay for the "Proudly Austrlian" advertising.
