Hallmark Cards strengthens web operations

Hallmark Cards has rolled out a managed web hosting service to increase control and reliability of its online service.

The IT infrastructure and web hosting platform comprises virtualised computers and storage services, as well as managed network and security services for Hallmark.com.

Hallmark’s need for a more flexible set-up to accommodate peaks in seasonal demand is the main reason for introducing the service.

During Valentine’s Day, for example, the company delivered five million e-cards.

To address the challenges, the service includes quality assurance and production environments, integrating advanced testing and cloud-based development services used in pre-production environments. The aim was to reduce cost and enable scalability, load and performance testing of web applications and services.

With the new platform, other benefits to the firm included the ability to develop and deliver new products and services without the risk of business disruption.

The service was deployed and is managed by supplier Savvis.
