OASIS approves Chinese software standard

The International Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) has approved the China Electronics Standardisation Association (CESA) Unstructured Operation Markup Language (UOML) as the first ever international standard developed in China, local Chinese media reported today.

UOML is a read and write access standard for electronic documents that defines operations for reading and writing between documents structured in different formats.

Exceeding the threshold of 45 votes required for adoption, the UOML standard received 51 votes for approval from OASIS members including international companies, academies and user groups.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will promote the UOML standard. Seven Chinese software companies have jointly established a UOML Alliance and launched projects to develop UOML software and applications.
