Record investment misses mobile devices

Records managers appear to be giving mobile access to records the thumbs-down despite recognising the need to provide information to users in real-time, a survey reveals.

The survey of 104 records managers at last month’s Records Managers Association of Australasia conference found that almost two-thirds of organisations ‘have no plans in place for providing access to corporate records on a mobile device’.

Only 25 per cent have already provided access to records on a mobile device, the survey found.

Almost three-quarters of attendees surveyed said that they will increase their spend on records management in the year ahead.

Approximately 40 per cent believed that records management would take a larger percentage of total IT budget investment in 2009.

The survey was conducted by the vendor Open Text.
