Australian internet service provider Internode is headquartered in Adelaide and has corporate branch offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
iTnews visited Internode’s Sydney office for a demonstration of the Cisco Telepresence system they use for inter-office meetings.
Internode executive Steve Harpas told iTnews every person he’s had a meeting with via Cisco Telepresence has been impressed at how much better the experience is than video conferencing or Skype.
Cisco conducts extensive checks on whether a company has quality network connectivity before installing a Telepresence system. The meter (top right) indicates a perfect connection has been established Sydney-Adelaide.
Cisco encourages customers to match curtains, furniture and wall colours at each telepresence location, lending to the notion of a real, face-to-face meeting.
A separate side screen can display shared documents; in this case a PDF diagram of Internode's Domestic Private IP network.
Single-screen telepresence systems use voice-activated sensors to automatically switch between displaying meeting participants at different locations.
Telepresence systems can be purchased in a variety of sizes. Internode has a three-screen system in their main Adelaide office and one-screen systems in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne (left to right on screen).
