EDITOR'S NOTE

An Australian company claims to have secured the rights to the use of a fibre optic network construction method that could dramatically lower the cost of rolling out a national broadband network.

Meanwhile, the file-sharing community has slammed a report released last week that claimed 89 percent of torrented files breached copyright, and Australia's competition watchdog is building an online repository where citizens can attempt to read those blacked-out freedom of information documents.
