iTnews rolled into Melbourne on Monday March 19, 2012, for the second in our series of Executive Summits.
CIOs and technology executives from the likes of Fortescue Metals, National Australia Bank, NBN Co, Telstra, Optus and Nextgen came together to discuss the cultural change required in organisations offshoring IT functions or subscribing to cloud computing services to reduce costs.
The keynote was a dynamic and at times confrontational presentation by Fortescue Metals CIO Vito Forte, who challenged the audience to “get out of the way” of the business and align technology spend with line of business rather than commodity services.
Delegates were also urged to consider involvement in standards bodies, following NAB’s lead on cloud computing, and were given an update on the business-grade services becoming available over the National Broadband Network.
