Paypal's senior architect has warned database administrators of the perils of 'Big Data' marketing, claiming relational databases continue to provide the speed and reliability required for global-scale operations. He also gave a MySQL conference this week a rare peek at the web service's database configuration, alongside similar details from Twitter and Facebook.

Also today, the University of Sydney has embarked on a pilot project with 200 students that could see it deliver virtual applications to students' personal machines next year.
