EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Shock jock Alan Jones might want to reconsider diving into the broadband debate, after arguing on air that the NBN can't match the speeds achieved by German researchers earlier this week. What failed to connect is that the gains were made using optical fibre - the same technology being rolled out for most Australians under the NBN plan.

NBN Co has since provided us some insight onto expected speeds in five years.

Also today, did the advent of the web provide us with more jobs or taketh work away? McKinsey weighs in.

"Only problem will be that NBN Co will have to radically change their pricing mechanism for retailers on the network. The current system, which is flawed anyway, is based on bandwidth and seriously limits the growth of bandwidth for consumers. "
