Internet horse flu vaccines are illegal

The NSW Department of Primary Industries is warning horse owners to resist the urge to buy illegal equine influenza vaccine from the internet.

The Department’s advisory reminds users that the importation of the vaccine is illegal and violates Customs and Quarantine rules.

The drug will be confiscated by officials and poses a significant risk of introducing more diseases into the country.

Furthermore, the NSW Department of Primary Industries Chief veterinary office Bruce Christie has warned horse owners not to waste their time or money buying the equine influenza vaccine from the internet.

Christie said the particular strain is yet to be identified and there is no way of knowing which particular vaccine will work.
