Indian IT services provider HCL has set up two new development and support centres in Sydney and Melbourne.

The Sydney centre, which was launched officially last night, currently employs 50 people in support, maintenance and some custom product development roles.

It is anticipated the centre will host 150 staff in the future, according to Brian Pereira, vice president and head of A/NZ for HCL Technologies.

The company also has established a separate R&D centre in Melbourne as part of a recently-announced joint venture with Computer Associates (CA).

The Melbourne facility will conduct threat management and anti-virus R&D on behalf of CA, with a view to providing proactive capabilities to CA customers globally, Pereira told iTnews.

It already employs approximately 100 staff and has been operating for three months.

“The Sydney facility will work hand-in-hand with Melbourne, researching threat management and anti-virus for the CA product suite that we support and help sell,” Pereira said.

“We expect this relationship will increase the visibility of these services in Australia and globally.”

The company also maintains five similar centres globally.
