EMC chairman: Australia growing faster than rest of world

Australia is going well, but the vendor paid too much for RSA, according to EMC chairman Joe Tucci.

EMC’s chairman Joe Tucci has hailed the storage vendor’s progress across Australia during his visit to Sydney last week.

Speaking at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Sydney, Tucci claimed EMC has built a strong presence across Australia, with its staff count in the region closing in on 1,000.

“Australia has been doing great for us. We are growing at the rate in the mid-teens around the world, but Australia is growing considerably faster. This happened last year and I expect it will happen again this year,” he said.

Tucci said he visited many of EMC customers in Australia and has had a great reception since arriving.

“For years I would visit Australia at least once a year, but for some reason I haven’t been here for five years, that is not going to happen again,” he said.

Last year EMC confirmed plans to acquire RSA Security in a deal worth some US$2.1bn.

When asked if EMC paid too much for RSA, Tucci replied: “Well I probably did, but what’s the definition of too much?”

Tucci added: “We will make lots of acquisitions this year, but we don’t intend on making another big one. This could even include an acquisition over here in Australia.”
