Sony zooms in on wireless cameras

Cyber-shot G1 includes wireless picture sharing and 2GB capacity.

Sony has boosted the capacity of its Cyber-shot G1 camera and added wireless connectivity for picture sharing.

"The Cyber-shot G1 is the first ever camera from Sony to feature onboard wireless connectivity," said Sony in a statement.

"Images captured on the G1 can be simultaneously seen and stored on another camera nearby, and images can also be gifted wirelessly to another G1 in the vicinity."

The Cyber-shot G1 uses 802.11b/g ad hoc wireless networking to transfer images to and from other G1 cameras, with no need to be inside a wireless hotspot.

The 6-megapixel camera includes a 3.5in screen for viewing pictures and has a 2GB capacity to store up to 600 high-resolution images.

Sony claims that its large storage space does away with the need for removable media.
