Michael Dell takes back chief executive chair

Kevin Rollins forced to step down.

Dell founder Michael Dell has been re-appointed as chief executive for the ailing computer and server manufacturer.

Dell replaces Kevin Rollins, served as the company's chief since July 2004.

Michael Dell founded the computer maker as a student. Using an innovative supply chain strategy that focuses on direct sales, Dell undercut his competitors and grew into the world's largest PC maker. The company's rise is one of the major forces behind the Compaq acquisition by HP in 2001.

The computer maker started to slide under Kevin Rollins however and in recent months has ceded the position as the world's top computer maker to HP. The firm also saw its financial position deteriorate and is facing declining revenues.
