Netgear teams up with BitTorrent

Firms tout video downloads streamed to high-def TVs.

Networking kit manufacturer Netgear has announced a partnership with BitTorrent at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The two companies will promote video downloads streamed to high-definition televisions through Netgear's Digital Entertainer HD (EVA8000) media receiver.

The EVA8000 is a set-top media receiver that connects to a home-theatre system to stream digital media from computers, network storage and USB media players.

Netgear's receiver automatically discovers, organises and plays high-definition movies, TV shows, music files and personal photos as well as internet-based video, news feeds, weather reports and radio programmes.

BitTorrent has partnerships with more than 20 entertainment studios and TV networks, and plans to offer a comprehensive library of downloadable digital entertainment content, including HD movies and TV shows.
