An IT firm belonging to the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi is implementing a virtual switch to create layered security in its data centre.

Diamond Computer Service (DCS) is implementing a virtual firewall, VPN, and intrusion prevention functionality to secure its servers.

"I was impressed with the ability of the switch to provide multiple independent security functions from a single system," said Takehiro Saito, general IT manager for DCS System Operations. "It can provide layered security to combat growing threats against the network, allowing us to deploy security functions for different applications with far less management effort."

Inkra's Japanese partner, NEC System Integration and Construction (NESIC), sold the solution to DCS.

A spokesman for Inkra said: "By reducing the amount of physical networking equipment, the virtual service switch offers benefits over traditional appliances, including reduced costs and complexity."
