EU prepares anti-trust complaint against Intel

Decision expected later this week.

The European Commission is preparing to file an anti-trust case against Intel, according to several media reports.

Citing anonymous sources, the publications claim that EU lawyers have prepared a draft of a legal complaint. A decision on whether to file the complaint is expected later this week.

Intel allegedly engaged in unfair trade practices when dealing with retailers, including German electronics retailer Media Markt.

The chip giant is said to have offered "unfair rebates" in an effort to prevent the retailer from carrying products powered by microprocessors from rival AMD.

European authorities have been investigating Intel for the past five years. AMD filed a legal complaint against Intel last summer over the anti-trust claims in the US, but saw most if its case thrown out last week after the judge refused to consider AMD's foreign evidence.
