Samsung switches on 70in HD LCD TV

Monster flat panel offers 180-degree viewing angle.

Samsung Electronics today unveiled what it claims is the first 70in LCD consumer TV. The Korean giant said that the largest current LCD TV screen size is 65in.

Kim Sang-Soo, executive vice president at Samsung, said that the HD TV is not only larger, but offers better video reproduction, viewing angle and image quality.

The monster flat panel boasts full high-definition resolution of 1080p and a conical viewing angle of 180 degrees for multi-viewing audiences.

The video signal is reproduced at 120Hz, compared to 60Hz for a conventional full HD LCD panel, enabling rapidly moving video images to be reproduced with high clarity.

Samsung will begin producing the new 70in LCD during the first half of 2007. The company will compete head-to-head with plasma display panel and projection TV makers.
