Lexar recalls overheating Flash drives

Storage tokens could cause injury or property damage.

Lexar has launched a voluntary recall of about 66,000 faulty Flash memory drives. The affected devices can overheat, potentially leading to burns and property damage.

The company has advised consumers to stop using the devices and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.

The recall affects several models of the firm's JumpDrive FireFly as well as the 1GB JumpDrive Secure II device.

The FireFly drives were sold by several retailers between April and May at prices between US$30 and US$110. The Secure II drive was sold exclusively at the US electronics discount store Fry's Electronics in May for about US$80.
