Qld state development searches for a new tech boss

Queensland’s Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning has joined a slew of state government departments in the sunshine state on the hunt for a new chief information officer.

The position was previously held by Mark Cushing, who left the department in March last year.

Following Cushing’s departure, Queensland public service veteran Mike D'Arcy was named as the department’s acting CIO. D’Arcy had previously served as the department’s manager of IT strategy and governance, as well as the manager for IMT program delivery.

A spokesperson for the department told iTnews the department had now opted to throw the position open to all applicants.

The vacancy comes as state development plans a major overhaul of its financial and asset management processes, alongside a review of its business processes and systems.

The department is also looking to consider “new and emerging technologies” to allow its staff to adopt more mobile and flexible work practices.

It follows a string of high-profile departures in the Queensland public service in recent months, which has included the departments of education, transport and health.
