German companies are beating the rest of Europe when it comes to IT security, according to McAfee.

Countries were awarded points based their companies' replies to questions on network security satisfaction, cost effectiveness and whether they had suffered a security breach in the past six months.

Nine out of 10 German companies questioned were 80 per cent or more satisfied with the level of IT protection in their business.

The French followed closely behind, Italy came third, the UK lagged behind in fourth place, and Spain and Holland finished bottom.

The cost efficiency of corporate IT security saw the two countries at the top change places, with 91 per cent of French businesses happy and 88 per cent of German companies feeling the same.

However, the Germans took the overall lead for having the strongest IT security record against cyber-threats, followed closely by France and the UK which tied for second place.

The survey, which was carried out by market research firm Ipsos MORI, surveyed over 600 senior IT decision makers at companies with 250+ employees across Europe.
