MacGibbon to lead Dimension Data security business

Director of the Centre for Internet Safety Alastair MacGibbon has joined global solutions provider Dimension Data to lead the company’s Australian security business unit.

MacGibbon has a long history in the IT security industry, specialising in cyber crime, and most recently as the local CEO of infosec certification not-for-profit CREST Australia.

MacGibbon told iTnews the move to Dimension Data was a continuation of previous roles in law enforcement, regulation and think tank organisations as well as on the corporate and advisory side.

As general manager of the security unit, MacGibbon will lead a team responsible for a range of capabilities including technical assessments and advice, compliance solutions and designing and building out security solutions.

One of the key areas of interest for MacGibbon is the concept of security as a service.

“I see the active monitoring of networks on behalf of customers as the future of security. A true managed security service is one of the best defences to advanced malware," he said.

During his 15 years as an agent for the Australian Federal Police, MacGibbon lead the establishment of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre - a country-wide policing initiative in which the AFP co-ordinates with spy agency ASIO and the Defence Signals Directorate to combine capabilities to combat serious and multi-jurisdictional crime.

MacGibbon has also previously led eBay’s Australia and Asia Pacific trust and safety division. He will retain his role as the Director of the Centre for Internet Safety at the University of Canberra.
