Glenn Archer resigns as Aus Govt CIO

Australian Government CIO Glenn Archer has confirmed his resignation from the role and his departure from the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) on Monday.

Archer's exit from the APS was first reported by Intermedium.

Archer has been on leave since late 2013. Leslie Seebeck, Finance's Assistant Secretary for ICT skills, capability and investment branch has been acting in the role in his absence.

Recruitment of a permanent replacement to the role is likely to be impacted by the federal government's hiring freeze.

Archer assumed the role in December 2012, an appointment which coincided with a functional split of AGIMO into strategic oversight, under Archer's leadership, and procurement and technical matters, under Australian Government CTO John Sheridan.

He had been working as Finance’s first assistant secretary of policy and planning since June 2010, and prior to that served as the chief information officer for the Education Department from February 2007 and June 2010.

Archer joined the public service in 2002, first as Centrelink’s national manager for e-business and later as its national manager of service integration gateway.

His previous career in the private sector spanned stints at Apple, Cisco Systems and IONA Technologies.

Archer was the lead executive behind the Federal Government's big data strategy.

The Department of Finance declined to comment.
