Henderson's replacement named.

ING Direct has named a replacement for departed CIO Andrew Henderson, with ING veteran Simon Andrews coming back to Australia to run the bank’s internal IT as chief operations officer.

ING Direct appoints new CIO

Henderson left the local operation in June for a global role as ING's head of global IT infrastructure services based out of the Netherlands.

Andrews will relocate from Thailand and his current position as chief operating officer at ING subsidiary TMB Bank, a role he has held since 2009.

Prior to his time in Thailand, Andrews served as ING’s risk director in the UK, as well as various senior roles in the bank's Australian operations between 1994 to 2005.

Andrews will take on the title of COO and will be responsible for IT and operations.

Prior to Henderson's appointment as CIO, the bank had pooled IT under the COO's remit, most recently held by Anne Myers prior to her recent departure to ING Italy.

Utilising the COO title brings Australia's structure in line with the bank's global practices.

ING CEO Vaughn Richtor said he was looking forward to having Andrews back in the Australian operation.

One of Andrews' first tasks will be to oversee the bank's 'Zero Touch IT' streamlining program for its core infrastructure, which will see ING consolidate and simplify a number of platforms into one.

The bank has declined to speak in detail about the project, which is currently underway and is expected to wrap up in the next year.
