NAB CIO to step down

National Australia Bank CIO Denis McGee will leave the bank at the end of the year, four months after he ws renamed CIO in an executive reshuffle.

McGee served as the bank’s chief technology officer from last November, when the bank split IT responsibilties into day to day IT management, under McGee, and the running of the bank’s multi-million dollar core systems overhaul, led by former CIO Adam Bennett.

McGee's title was changed to CIO in April when the bank made changes to the structure of its executive team. McGee has been with the bank since 2008.

Under the new structure McGee and Bennett reported to NAB group executive of enterprise services and transformation Lisa Gray, rather than CEO Cameron Clyne.

NAB confirmed the move, as first reported by the Australian Financial Review, and said it was currently looking for a new CIO.

NAB declined to comment on McGee’s next moves but said in a statement it was the right time for both McGee and NAB to part ways. 

"The end of 2013 is a natural juncture in NAB’s technology plans,” Gray said in a statement.

“After discussions about our move to the next stage of transformation, it was felt it was the right move at the right time for Denis to pursue his next challenge.

“Denis is well-recognised, here at NAB and more widely, for his contribution to the technology industry. He will leave behind a considerable legacy, in terms of outcomes and as a leader and mentor.”
