ICT strategy implementation progress.

The Federal Government is studying a whole-of-government big data strategy among several other initiatives as part of its three-year ICT strategy released last year, according to an update today.

Federal Government studies big data strategy

Announced last October, the 40-page ICT strategy document aimed to improve operational efficiency, services and stakeholder engagement until 2015.

The strategy highlighted several items on the Government’s initial agenda including an ICT services catalogue, whole-of-government Parliamentary workflow solution and whole-of-government mobile and big data strategies.

Today’s update provides further insights into the progress of those initiatives.

The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) said in a blog post it was:

  • investigating the issues and possibilities for a big data strategy.
  • preparing a roadmap for mobile technology.
  • working with the Education department on commencing a rollout of the whole-of-government Parliamentary workflow solution.
  • enhancing Finance’s Govshare website for re-use across Government agencies.

It said it has also been reviewing data centre sourcing arrangements and the mobile telecommunications devices and services panel, as well as listing extra cloud services to the data centre as a services (DCaaS) multi use list.

AGIMO said it would continue to provide regular updates on the progress of the strategy implementation.
