NSW Govt all ears on ICT strategy review

Implementation open to industry scrutiny.

The NSW Government is opening an industry consultation process as part of the first annual review of its ICT strategy, launched in March last year.

NSW Govt all ears on ICT strategy review

Minister for Finance and Services, Greg Pearce, today opened three lines of inquiry into the strategy via the state's Have Your Say consultative platform.

Industry inputs will be taken into account as the Government prepares its ICT strategy implementation update for 2013.

The Government is seeking views on new actions to build on capabilities created last year, such as open data, infrastructure services and procurement reform; open government; and state engagement with the industry and community on IT approaches.

When NSW launched the ICT strategy, it flagged annual reviews that could yield new projects, including those that built on existing achievements and "whole new lines of work".

The state government did not want to set out a prescriptive multi-year roadmap for ICT, but instead allow changes to be incorporated yearly, enabling it to better harness advances in technology along the way.

"In the past year we have achieved a great deal but we need to build on this by tapping into the expertise of industry and taking advantage of new innovative concepts, market opportunities and technologies available," Pearce said today.

"I encourage people to have their say on our approach and put their ideas forward on what can be achieved now and in the future."

The Government refreshed the make-up of its industry-based ICT advisory panel last December after its first year of operation.
