Customs and Border Protection has recovered from a systems glitch that prevented it from processing some $35 million in electronic payments last week.
The glitch prevented an electronic fund transfer (EFT) file from being sent to Westpac for processing on Thursday.
It affected payments made via Customs' online payment facility between midday Wednesday and midday Thursday.
Customs notified its clients of the error on Friday. The file was sent to Westpac for funds to be transferred on Friday evening.
An agency spokesperson said the error occured “infrequently” and Customs and Border Protection had well-established procedures in place to deal with it.
