Former Sydney Uni IT manager to face corruption probe

A former University of Sydney IT manager will appear before the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) later this month.

The commission said in a statement that it was investigating allegations levelled against Atilla Demiralay and his associates over the use of an agency to recruit contractors and staff to the University.

The agency was engaged between January 2007 and May 2011, according to the ICAC.

It is alleged that Demiralay and/or his wife had an interest in various iterations of the recruiter.

The ICAC said it would also investigate allegations that Demiralay and associates "improperly manipulated the recruitment process to engage, or recommend the engagement of, certain contractors or staff for the university or to justify the engagement of certain contractors or staff."

The Sydney Morning Herald reported last year that the alleged conduct potentially impacted "hundreds of thousands of dollars" worth of contracts.

Four days of hearings have been set down beginning Tuesday March 20.
