The 10,500 m2 centre will include 3000 m2 of high density technical floor space and be targeted at mining and resources firms and cloud service providers, among other key verticals.

P1 also includes 2,000 m2 of office space that customers can use for business continuity, the company said in a statement.

Construction of P1 has been put in the hands of project manager Terry Hendricks, who joined NextDC in October last year.

NextDC said Hendricks had previously managed planning and construction of data centres "in Perth and overseas".

P1 is expected to cost NextDC somewhere in the order of $80 million to construct. It is to be located approximately 11 kilometres north of the Perth CBD on land acquired in April last year.
