Demand for IT executives has increased, according to a recent study.

Demand for IT executives has increased, according to a recent study.

Executive recruitment firm E.L Consult's Executive Demand Index found that in the IT sector, the December index showed a 14 percent increase over the previous month.

"The information technology index has broken its recent rollercoaster trend, recording three consecutive months of increases," according to the report. "The 14 percent increase in December makes it the first quarter of increases since at least January 2002."

"Gains in the government sector guaranteed the overall rise, with Victoria, South Australia and the ACT pushing demand higher. Falls in the New South Wales and Queensland offline government sectors did not lead the index into the red."

Job titles included in the firm's IT Index include CIO, MIS manager, network manager, specialist programmer, software manager, systems architect and business systems analyst.

Across all industry sectors, demand for executives rose five percent in December compared to the previous month, according to a statement about the index.

Grant Montgomery, managing director at E.L Consult, said there is no sign overall in the economy of a slowdown in executive jobs.

"The demand for executives, while sometimes volatile on a month to month basis continues to demonstrate strong business confidence," said Montgomery.
