Research in Motion (RIM) has reportedly canned development of its rumoured 10-inch PlayBook, according to a BlackBerry enthusiast news site.
The supposed 10-inch model was to come in black or white casing, include a SIM card slot, 4G and WiFi, and was to be capable of connecting to BlackBerry Enterprise Server without BlackBerry Bridge, according to an earlier report by News 4 BlackBerry (N4BB).
With RIM reportedly cutting internal quarterly sales target for the PlayBook from 2.4 million to 800,000 to 900,000, the company will go back to its handset roots.
Replacing RIM´s PlayBook plans will be a BlackBerry 'Superphone', the first of its handsets that will run on its QNX operating system, currently used for the PlayBook.
The Superphone, according to N4BB, will include the same single 1.2GHz processor that is used for its Bold 9900 and a 4.3 inch touch screen.
While RIM fans will not get a larger screen tablet option, the company was reportedly preparing to launch an LTE 4G PlayBook by October this year.
