EMC replaces Data Domain boss

Retained for "advisory" role.

EMC has replaced the former boss of de-duplication company Data Domain, Frank Slootman, who has led EMC's Backup Recovery Systems business since Data Domain was acquired in 2009 for for US$2.4 billion.

The outsider, Slootman, will be replaced by 13-year EMC veteran William "BJ" Jenkins, formerly the chief of staff for the business unit Slootman will depart from.

EMC had made a hefty bid for Data Domain's business, out-doing its storage rival NetApp by US$1 billion to take the company.

"We are grateful to Frank for his extraordinary leadership. The success of Data Domain in the marketplace and the performance of the business as part of EMC have been nothing short of remarkable," EMC chief Joe Tucci said.

Jenkins had led the integration of Data Domain since its acquisition, according to EMC's statement.

Slootman will also remain with the company in an advisory capacity.
