NEC will overhaul the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria's (RACV) data and voice networks in a five-year deal announced yesterday.
The company said it would rebuild the network "from the ground up" based on Cisco routers, an IBM virtual server farm and two Big Blue storage area networks.
The network would operate as a blended IP environment using NEC SV8500 and SV8100 communication servers and an NEC unified communications system that integrated with Lotus Notes.
It would support about 2,500 people at RACV's operational headquarters, clubs, resorts and retail outlets.
RACV was also deploying a Genesys call centre system for about 550 agents.
NEC said it would provide day-to-day facilities management for the environment "including multi-vendor support contracts".
Implementation of the new environment was expected to begin early next year.
NEC won the deal as part of a tender process.
