Fujitsu opens Perth data centre

BankWest announced as anchor customer.

Fujitsu has announced Bankwest as the anchor tenant of its new data centre in Perth, which officially opened yesterday after an 18-month construction effort.

As revealed on iTnews in 2008, Fujitsu has been building what it claims to be one of the world's most environmentally friendly Tier III data centres in the West Australian capital.

The 8,000m², two-level complex will provide 3,000m² of raised floor space; three main server rooms for cabinet and cage installations, and three smaller ones for dedicated private suites.

It offers up to 1500W of power per square metres.

Fujitsu said the facility has been hosting Bankwest's IT for one month.

A spokesman for Bankwest confirmed that it had taken up a caged area within the facility to upgrade from two other Perth data centres that were more than 20 years old.

The company said the new data centre boasts building automation smarts to minimise power use, with a target PUE of 1.5. The facility also uses both hot and cold aisle containment, plus free air when ambient outside temperatures fall below 23 degrees celsius - which in Perth amounts to eight months of the year.

Fujitsu said customers can give clients a granular breakdown on power and cooling consumption, plus carbon emissions, to meet compliance needs. Certification for ISO27001 and ASIO T4 is underway.

The facility also boasts dual redundant power, fibre and water feeds and physical security that includes anti-scaling fences, biometrics and proximity card access, man-traps, CCTV and a 24 x 7 security guard.

Fujitsu is also building Tier III data centres in Western Sydney and Melbourne, adding to its 15,000 square metre footprint in Australia's major capitals.
