Voice-and-data company Integ Communication has netted a $4 million, four-year LAN switching managed services deal with UK-based telecommunications provider Marconi.

Voice-and-data company Integ Communication has netted a $4 million, four-year LAN switching managed services deal with UK-based telecommunications provider Marconi.

Ian Poole, chief executive at Integ, said the deal would encompass account management, data networking and related services and support for Marconi customers in Australia.

Some 73 Marconi customers totalling about 400 sites would be covered by the agreement, he said.

"It will be complete account management, 24 by 7 technical support and basically monitoring all the data networking equipment they have got," Poole said.

"It's basically LAN switching and the products are mainly Cisco, 3Com, Lucent and also Scitec -- whose technology and customers Marconi acquired."

Poole said most of the Marconi customers involved had 500 or more seats. They were from a range of sectors and industries but three -- Qantas, ABC and Country Energy -- were particularly important, he said.

"This has given us three fairly significant customers to build on that competency and give us the opportunity and nucleus to build our relationship with Marconi," he said.

Further sales were expected to stem from the deal, which included pre-sales support and consultancy opportunities, Poole said.

Some 27 or 28 of Integ's team of 110 would work on the team that delivered services to Marconi, but not full time, Poole added.

Paul Butcher, executive vice-president for Marconi Australia and Asia-Pacific, said in a statement that Integ was chosen for its national presence and ability to support Marconi's product and service portfolio.

However, Integ was also seen as capable of providing suitable "sophisticated new" communications offerings to Marconi over time, Butcher said.
