Demand for IT execs still strong

Demand for IT executives remains promising despite a five percent drop for the month of February, according to the E.L. Executive demand index.

"Five percent is not a very indicative correction because we’ve had 20 and 40 percent growth in previous months," said Grant Montgomery, managing director at E.L. Consult.

A decline in state government positions had a strong influence on the figure, although private sector positions remained strong across QLD, SA, VIC and ACT.

Montgomery said the outlook was still very positive for IT executives, particularly as web services enabled businesses to expand their capacity with relatively minor financial outlay.

"Australia has embraced web processing much more quickly than our neighbouring economies like Hong Kong and Singapore," he said.

Montgomery said that he could not foresee a shortage of IT executives. He anticipated that, although demand would continually improve, there wouldn't be tremendous increases in IT contracts or executive salaries.
