Blue Coat moves into data loss prevention

Appliances to stop sensitive content leaks.

Blue Coat Systems has introduced its first line of security appliances designed for data loss prevention (DLP).

The company said that the aim is to stop data loss by combining internal management tools with web and network security protections through a single network appliance.

The appliances will sport components such as data fingerprinting, file management and network traffic management, along with tools to prevent web-based attacks.

Blue Coat said that it can provide enterprises with a secure DLP system that can be deployed in a much shorter time than previously.

The company is planning to integrate the appliances with its ProxySG traffic monitoring device and Secure Web Gateway. The company hopes that the combined services will appeal to organisations focused on simplicity and ease of deployment and management.

"The Blue Coat DLP appliances provide a no-compromise approach to DLP that supports enterprise-class functionality in an easy-to-deploy solution," said Blue Coat vice president of product marketing Carrie Oakes.

"By extending the Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway to include our new DLP appliances, we now provide layered, comprehensive security that prevents malicious content from entering the network and sensitive content from leaving the network."

The company plans to deliver the appliances on 30 June at a starting cost of US$12,000.
