Akamai, Viocorp to stream TEDx

Good ideas spread further.

Internet cache service Akamai and online video specialists Viocorp have thrown their collective technical weight behind this weekend's inaugural TEDx event in Sydney.

An initiative of TED, a US based not-for-profit 'devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading', TEDx is an independently organised event based on the concept of bringing together 'thinkers and doers' to each give the talk of their lives in exactly eighteen minutes.

This Saturday, Sydney artspace CarriageWorks will play host to Australia's inaugural TEDx event. Speakers at the event include The Powerhouse Museum's Sebastian Chan - a member of the Australian Government's Government 2.0 Taskforce, CSIRO nano-scientist Amanda Barnard, Sydney-based Lars Rasmussen, co-founder of the Google Wave and Google Maps, comedians from The Chaser, musicians Missy Higgins and Mr Percival, and many more.

Viocorp has agreed to provide live streaming of the speeches on the TEDxSydney.com website and public screens at Carriageworks, whilst Akamai has agreed to cache the video content on its massive network 65,000 servers spread around the globe.

Australian Akamai partners include AAPT, Adam Internet, iiNet, Internode, Telstra and Australia's universities and research institutions via AARNet.
