Symantec rolls out hosted web security service

Monitoring service notifies users of potential malware attacks.

Symantec is introducing a new security service designed to protect companies from web-based attacks.

The company said that the new Web Security Monitoring service would provide firms with around the clock monitoring and protection from browser and web application vulnerabilities.

The subscription service, which is designed to compliment existing enterprise security appliances and services, will alert administrators of potential attacks and vulnerabilities for end users as well as IT systems.

The company said that the service was specifically designed to root out and detect malware infections which may be transmitting data through IRC or other channels designed to operate without catching the eye of administrators.

"As cyber criminals shift from targeting networks with high-volume spam and malware attacks to focusing more on stealth technologies, the web is the new front line for the compromise of assets with the express goal of stealing confidential information," said Symantec global managed security services vice president Grant Geyer.

"The new Symantec Web Security Monitoring service gives customers the assurance that their endpoints and servers are protected from evolving Web-based threats."
