3Com and IT services firm CDM have won the right to supply a multiprotocol label switching network to be shared by several Queensland Government agencies.
The public safety network (PSN) initiative brings together the existing data networks of the Queensland Police Service, Department of Justice and Attorney-General and Queensland Corrective Services into a single new state-of-the-art network to be shared between them.
It is hoped the single consolidated network will enable the agencies to share information securely and more quickly.
3Com said today that it and Communications Design & Management (CDM) had secured a standing offer arrangement for the network.
Standing offer arrangements require contracted suppliers to provide goods and services over a set period in accordance with agreed terms and conditions, including price, according to the Queensland Government.
They are designed to ensure agencies get value for money from purchases, it said.
The arrangement between 3Com, CDM and the public safety network is a "multi-year" with a "multi million dollar" value.
3Com will supply its enterprise network switching infrastructure and management software, while CDM will supply professional and maintenance services.
