Woven Systems technology lives on with Fortinet

Fortinet breathes life back into datacentre switching vendor.

Security appliance vendor Fortinet has acquired intellectual property rights from defunct high-speed switch and traffic management firm Woven Systems, which shut down its operations earlier this year.

Woven Systems, which specialised in 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching products designed for data centres, had reportedly been in financial trouble for some time and finally shut down operations on May 22, 2009.

According to Fortnet, the new technology will help improve the company's FortiGate-5000 Series security products.

In a statement, Fortinet CEO and co-founder Ken Xie said: "Woven's ASIC-driven approach to high performance is highly complementary to Fortinet's own strategy for maximising performance through customised processors."

Fortinet was unable to provide further details because the company has entered a 'quiet period' following its decision last week to file for a US$100m IPO
