3 mobile broadband customers get security software

The price is right.

Mobile broadband customers from Hutchison 3 are being offered a free 12 month subscription to the "premium" AVG Internet security software suite.

The telco joins financial institutions such as Suncorp Bank, Westpac and NAB in offering security software to customers.

It said that prepaid and post-paid mobile broadband customers were eligible for the free download.

Customers can find it by logging into their My3 self-service portal.

"Access to Mobile Broadband has now become a day-to-day necessity for many consumers and small and medium businesses," said Klaas Raaijmakers, 3's head of broadband.

"Secure access and data protection is even more critical and we're committed to ensuring our customers can email, download and surf the Internet with the comfort that they are protected from online threats."

The deal is better than that offered by Suncorp Bank that last week offered its customers the same free software for 90 days and then sold it at a 15 percent retail discount.

The full price of the software on the AVG website is $89.99.

A word of advice from a 3 mobile broadband customer. Do not get 3 mobile broadband. I read about 3's poor customer service before signing up and I ignored the warnings others gave - what a mistake. I have had nothing but trouble from the faceless 3 - if you dont believe me just try to contact them online... open their website and go to the "contact us" page - a phone number that rings abroad to sales reps NOT customer service and an online form which will send an auto reply based on keywords in your complaint... useless. Avoid 3 they will not value your business.
