Aust joins global summit

A global summit has adopted an action plan designed to help international efforts in cyber security, managing spam and using ICT to improve world living standards.

The United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), held in Geneva last week, agreed on a declaration of principles and an action plan that can be used by governments, communities and the private sector.

“The action plan will also reinforce international efforts and policies to enhance cyber security and to manage spam,” said Daryl Williams, Minister for Communications, IT and the Arts, in a statement.

A second phase of the Summit is planned for 2005, and would look at how to advance the development of effective national and regional information economy strategies, it stated.
